Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it
has grown explosively and today is inhabited by a total
of 2,111,432 people from around the globe.
- From the moment you enter the
World you'll discover a vast digital continent, teeming
with people, entertainment, experiences and opportunity.
Once you've explored a bit, perhaps you'll find a perfect
parcel of land to build your house or business.
- You'll also be surrounded by the
Creations of your fellow residents. Because residents
retain the rights to their digital creations, they can
buy, sell and trade with other residents.
- The
Marketplace currently supports millions of US dollars
in monthly transactions. This commerce is handled with
the in-world currency, the Linden dollar, which can be
converted to US dollars at several thriving online currency
exchanges.
Welcome to Second Life. We look forward to seeing you in-world.
Welcome to Second Life. We are a global community working together to build a new online space for creativity, collaboration, commerce, and entertainment. We strive to bridge cultures and welcome diversity. We believe in free expression, compassion and tolerance as the foundation for community in this new world.
For most questions and issues in Second Life, you'll find
the answers in the Second
Life Knowledgebase. These pages are actively maintained
by Linden Lab support personnel, including information on
technical support & handy how-to guides.
If your computer doesn't meet these requirements, you may
not be able to participate in Second Life. To be sure, check
your system according to this
list.
The Known Issues page lists bugs and other problems that
have been reported. The developers are aware of these issues
and currently working on fixes for them.
Live Help: Confused about something in-world?
Ask questions! Select "Live Help" under the Help menu on
top of the screen to chat with a live volunteer. Residents
with the title "Mentor" or "Liaison" are specifically here
to help you, but most residents will help if you ask nicely.
Help/Abuse Report: This should be used
for reports of other residents not abiding by the Community
Standards. Click the Help menu at the top of the screen
and select Abuse.
Help/Bug Report: Bug Reports should be
filed when you encounter a problem that, while potentially
inconvenient, does not directly affect or impair your actual
ability to function within Second Life. Examples include
graphical oddities, misdirected teleporting, incorrect financial
data, or missing inventory. The feedback on bug reports
is limited so if you need help to continue playing Second
Life, don't rely on the bug report, try one of our other
methods of support!
Technical Support: Whenever you require
technical support to continue using Second Life, please
send us a support
request. Problems such as recurring crashes, unacceptable
performance, and other technical problems that prevent Residents
from adequately functioning in Second Life are all reasons
to submit a request. Be sure to search the knowledgebase
and known
issues list first to see if your problem has already
been addressed!
General Questions: Also any broad questions
about Second Life that cannot be answered by Live Helper
-- FAQ, How To's, etc. -- should also be sent to support.
Billing Issues: All questions or problems
related to Second Life Accounts, Land Use Levels or Fees,
Monthly Billing, Account Conversions, or Auctions should
be directed to billing.
If none of the above resources can help, give us a call!
We have toll-free support lines staffed during our office
hours: 9am-6pm PST, Monday through Friday (we are shrinking
our hours just a bit in anticipation of more extensive live
phone service in the near future).

PLEASE NOTE: If you call us after business
hours, please leave a voice mail with your Account name,
Real name, email address, phone number and short description
of the reason you called. Please remember to give all of
the information needed and speak clearly and slowly! We
will get back to you as soon as possible.
